A window can act as a barrier or a pathway that leads from one environment to another. A window can offer a physical disconnect while acting as a visual portal to the other side. It can be a shield to the elements, holding nature at bay. Sometimes a window can be opened or broken creating a space where two environments merge. A confluence of atmosphere. A window is also a place of transportation. Staring contently into the icy mist from inside the kitchen with the smell of delicious food and the sounds of a record on the turn table, the mind can wander off to other places.

These songs came into being somewhere in the latter.

A rooftop in Brooklyn in the evening can reveal electricity traveling straight into the cosmos. The perfect amount of humidity and sea breeze allows comfort in a t-shirt all through the night, staring straight through Manhattan.

A dirt road in Pennsylvania in August during astronomical twilight. You feel the sun getting ready to emerge. It's cold and wet, and the gas station coffee pairs well with a buttered hard roll.

The slog of driving through Kansas and the first forever of Colorado is a purgatory of soy, corn, and sunflowers. False hope emerges with the sunflowers. When they just don't stop you feel fooled. BUT, when you first glimpse the Rocky Mountains....yes. They are so epic that it takes an eternity to reach them, but you can't wait to be reborn into the thin layer of oxygen.

All of these places are very alive. They are in constant motion, yet one does not move the body to experience them. These are the places on the other side of the window pane. A window pane that was drawn from a tank furnace before I was born.
